Education

The Education programme focused on making Wikimedia tools a sustainable part of Swiss classrooms by developing ready-to-use resources for the platforms teachers already use.

Overview

The central goal for 2026 is to offer teaching and learning Open Educational Resources (OER) on specialised platforms for German-speaking Swiss teachers.

This is a pilot: if it works, it embeds Wikimedia tools into the daily workflow of educators rather than treating them as one-off workshop topics. Target platforms include Classroom.ch, Schularena, myMoments, Schabi.ch, zebis.ch, and zebis.digital.ch.

A programme highlight was a new collaboration with RUNED 26, an international conference hosted by the Pedagogical University of Fribourg.

Working jointly with the Community programme, we implemented a best-practice architecture based on MediaWiki tools for an open-source review process in the French-speaking academic world. This was the first implementation of its kind, and it received support from the French Wiki-scientific community.

Continued developing Open Educational Resources for distribution on specialised German-speaking Swiss teacher platforms (Classroom.ch, Schularena, myMoments, Schabi.ch, zebis.ch, zebis.digital) as a pilot project.

Completed a penetration test on La Digitale’s Digipad application in partnership with the Haute Ecole d’Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud (HEIG-VD).

The report found the application’s security generally good, with only one exploitable vulnerability identified. Digipad (a collaborative educational platform) is officially endorsed by the French Ministry of National Education and is widely adopted across French-speaking education, including Switzerland.

Co-produced an open-source review process architecture based on MediaWiki tools for RUNED 26. The project was in collaboration with lecturers and researchers at the University of Fribourg – Faculty of Education and Training, the Wikimedia CH Community programme, and the French Wiki-scientific community (Wikiversité). This was the first implementation of its kind in the French-speaking world.

Participated in Plattformtreffen MIA 21 in Bern, the annual computer science education exchange meeting.

Participated in Open Education Day 2026 in Bern, the annual conference on open-source tools and resources in education.
